In a world where every penny counts, Ingenico and Pennies have proven that even the smallest contributions can make a significant impact. The partnership between Ingenico, the global leader in payment acceptance and services, and Pennies, the award-winning fintech charity, has reached an impressive milestone: 10 million micro-donations.

Over a decade of impact

The collaboration between Ingenico and Pennies began in 2011 with a powerful vision: to make charitable giving more accessible and integrated into everyday life. By embedding Pennies' donation option into Ingenico's payment terminals, they created a seamless process for consumers to donate to charity with just a tap. At the point of sale, customers shopping with participating merchants are prompted to round up their purchase or add a small donation to their total bill, making giving almost effortless.

Achieving 10 million donations

Reaching 10 million donations is a testament to the effectiveness of the partnership but, more importantly, the generosity of the public and our natural desire to help others. Each micro-donation, while small on its own, contributes to a significant collective impact, with £3.8million raised since the partnership began. This achievement underscores the power of small acts of kindness and how they can add up to substantial figures.

The impact: real-world benefits

With over 150 brands using Pennies today, the funds raised have supported a wide range of causes, from healthcare and education to disaster relief and environmental protection.

This model of giving democratises philanthropy, allowing everyone to contribute to the causes they care about, regardless of their financial means. Donations are anonymous so only the consumer gets to see whether they donated or not.

Examples of Ingenico merchants who use Pennies include:

  • Topps Tiles - 30 minutes of micro-donations from Topps Tiles customers could allow almost 300 people to visit Talking Point, the Alzheimer's Society online community and an incredible place to learn from people's shared experiences, ask questions, and get support, day or night.
  • Moto - Micro-donations at Moto go to Moto Foundation who make a real impact supporting national charity partners like Mind, the leading mental health charity across England and Wales.
  • Vision Express - Supporting OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, a charity aiming to eliminate uncorrected poor vision in a generation.
